About Sakamoto and Mt. Hiei
Sakamoto, Otsu City is an alluvial fan nestled at the foot of Mt. Hiei. Omiya River and Fujiki River originate in Mt. Hiei and feed into the silvery waters of the expansive Lake Biwa. Positioned between Mt. Hiei and Lake Biwa to the east of Kyoto, it was once a port town that functioned as a vital transportation hub for various goods. It is now valued as a historical town that is home to satobo, and numerous shrines and temples including the World Cultural Heritage Hieizan Enryaku-ji Temple, Hiyoshi Taisha Shrine, and Saikyo-ji Temple.
